Landscapes — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A eucalyptus standing alone beside a park path, a second rounder tree to the right, with low hills behind and two figures on a bench at its foot.
The tall tree sits just left of centre and rises the full height; the second tree balances it at the right. The path and grass run across the lower fifth, and the whole middle is given to open sky.
Dove grey and pale blue through the sky, with the foliage in slate blue-green and a warmer sap green on the right-hand tree. The path is lavender; two small figures carry the only warm notes.
The canopy is dabbed in flat touches with sky left showing between them, so the leaves read against the blue rather than on it. The trunk and branches are single thin pulls drawn last.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque, with a wide white margin. Photographed with the palette knife used to mix it.
Lower left, raypatrick, in dark grey over the path, letters touching.
