Landscapes — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A line of tall trees along a road running above a bay, with figures and a dog walking the verge beneath them and a white car coming up the hill.
The road enters at the lower left and runs back to the centre; the trees stand along it as a row of verticals cropped at the top edge. The sea is a thin pale band seen between their trunks.
Olive, bottle green and sage through the canopies against a sky of cerulean and bone. The verge is emerald; the road a pale lavender, and the shadows across it are violet.
Flat opaque planes stamped in separate loaded touches with sky showing between them, and the trunks drawn last as single thin pulls. The figures are two marks each.
Gouache on paper, over a pencil border, on a blue sheet. Photographed on the studio table.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in cream over the verge, letters widely spaced.
