Knife fight, in colour

Two cats fighting with knives — a dark shaggy cat lunging from the left, a lean pale cat parrying at the right — circling each other with their tails sweeping the foreground.
The two animals curve into one another so their bodies and tails close a rough circle, the blades crossing at the centre. The painted ground is a loose rectangle that the tails break out of on both sides.
Violet and indigo through the dark cat against cream and apricot in the pale one, over a ground of mint, rose and slate. Nothing in the background is given a hard edge.
Washes brushed over finished ink, the fur worked in directional strokes that follow the earlier line. The background is dabbed in broken colour so it reads as movement rather than a place.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
Signed rayrayisHAPPY at the lower centre.
