Kitty City cover
Mersh standing in an autumn wood with a submachine gun over his shoulder and a cigarette in his mouth, three armed cats on the stream bank below him and a fourth out in the water. Worked as a cover.
A wide panel with Mersh large and cropped at the left edge and the stream running away to the right, the cats spaced along it so the eye travels from him into the landscape.
Violet and blue through the figure against burnt orange and gold in the trees, with the water in green and lilac. He is painted cold against an entirely warm wood.
Ink contour with washes brushed in broad and wet, the forest built from vertical strokes and left to run. The figure is modelled more tightly than anything behind him.
Watercolour and ink on paper, worked as cover artwork.
