Kitty City by night
The city itself: a canal running between towers under strings of lit globes, boats on the water, a stone bridge crossing the middle distance, and figures small along the quay. A blue winged cat lies along a balustrade in the near left corner holding a green lamp, watching the street below.
A deep one-point perspective straight down the waterway, the buildings closing in either side and a pale gap of sky at the far end. The cat is the only large form and it is placed in the near corner looking the same way the viewer is, so it sets the scale for everything beyond it.
Hot brick and rust through the buildings at the left against cold teal and slate in the water and the far towers, with the hanging lamps picked out in gold. The cat's violet-blue is the one colour that belongs to neither half.
Ink line throughout with washes flooded in and allowed to run, the architecture drawn fast and repeated to build depth rather than described in detail. The lamps are reserved as bare paper and tinted, which is why they read as lit.
