watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A great cumulus tower over a flat green plain, with a line of trees and a small red-roofed building along the horizon.
Nine tenths sky. The cloud rises from the left and spreads to the right edge, and the land is compressed into the bottom fifth as a band of green with no incident in it but the one roof.
Cobalt breaking round the cloud, which is built in dove, pewter and a warm bone where the light strikes it. The plain is emerald and sap green; one terracotta roof at the left is the only warm note below.
Washed first in transparent greys and then drawn into with a pen, the line used to cut the cloud's edges and find its shelves after the paint was dry. The plain is dragged across in dry horizontal strokes.
Watercolour with pen and ink on paper. Transparent throughout.
No signature visible within the painted area.
