I might need a shower
Monday morning at a motel courtyard. Mersh thanks Royce for bailing him out, calls it a loooong weekend, and is told he is always glad to have an extra hand. He admits that next time he needs bail he might need a shower first, and the strip ends poolside at a barbecue with the pair of them back at it.
Six panels. The first is a wide establishing shot of the building with a tiny speech balloon in it, which sets the scale of the morning, and the last runs the full width as a crowded poolside scene. Between them the two men are drawn in matching close-ups facing each other.
Chalky turquoise and sand in the courtyard against the orange of Royce's apron and the hot cyan of the pool. The closing panel carries the only crowd and the only beach light.
Flat even washes over a steady ink line, with the architecture ruled and the figures drawn freehand. The water is the one passage worked wet, dragged in long horizontal strokes.
