Subject

A name comes through the Sugar Cookie. The staff whisper about where he has gone, the manager complains that Alex has quit hypnotising the girls, and the man himself holds court at a table, peeling off ten bands and announcing the new world order. Mersh's verdict closes the strip: the only guy he knows who pays the strippers to keep their clothes on.

Composition

Five panels, the lower one running nearly the full width so the table scene gets the room a crowd needs. The upper row is a sequence of narrow glimpses — a doorway, a security guard, a head of hair — which builds the arrival before showing it.

Palette

Lilac and cold violet through the club, broken by the magenta of a dancer's hair and the hot pink of Mersh's shirt. The big panel is the warmest thing on the sheet.

Handling

Washes over a fast ink line, with the wide panel worked harder than the rest — the faces there are modelled in several passes while the small panels stay as single flat statements.

Medium and support

Watercolour and ink on paper.

Signature

Signed rayrayisHAPPY in small script at the lower right.
