Half inked, half painted

A Superkillers page caught half finished on the desk, blue painter's tape along its edge, the top half still ink and the bottom half painted. The top half is still pen and ink alone — a figure falling, a panel of hand-lettered AAAAAA, a cat flung out of a starburst. The bottom half has been painted: an orange fireball with FFFFWOOSH beside it, and a KA-BOOM logo with two blue figures thrown off the top of it.
Shot at an angle from the corner of the desk rather than square on, so the page runs away to the upper left and the painted half is nearest the camera. The line between coloured and uncoloured falls across the middle of the frame, which is the point of the photograph.
The painted half is orange, yellow and blue at full strength; the unpainted half is black on white. The blue tape at the right edge is almost exactly the blue of the figures.
The colour is laid in heavily and wet, with the fireball built from overlapping scallops and flicked spatter; the lettering is drawn and outlined by hand before any paint touches it.
