Green pasture strip across a broad plain
A broad plain with a bright green strip of pasture across the middle, a dark tree line behind it and bare earth running to the viewer under high cloud.
Horizontal registers throughout — cloud, trees, pasture, bare ground — with the pasture a single hot green band at the centre that the whole picture is arranged around.
Cream and dusty rose through the cloud, with the tree line in bottle green and slate. The pasture is a sharp acid green and the foreground runs terracotta, ochre and umber with flecks of teal.
Wet throughout and allowed to run, the cloud lifted out of a damp wash rather than reserved, and the foreground laid in overlapping horizontal pulls that bleed into one another. Small dark dashes are stamped over it when dry.
Watercolour on paper. Transparent throughout, with unpainted margins on all four sides.
