Grab that pet carrier
A dancer tells Mersh her boyfriend is abusive — he makes her pay for everything, they fistfight every night, he is intimidated by her hustle. Mersh listens through all of it without moving. Then she mentions that the man will not even feed her cat, and he is out of the chair.
Seven panels. The top row is a flat run of talking heads, deliberately monotonous, and the bottom row breaks it open with a hand-lettered CLICK CLACK and two hard close-ups of Mersh's face. The strip is built so that the one panel where he reacts is the only one with movement in it.
Violet and plum through the club, the dancer in acid yellow and green, Mersh in olive. The reaction panels go red and orange behind him.
Flat even washes in the talking panels and much wetter, more worked paint in the last two, with the lettering outlined and filled by hand.
