A great bank of cloud at sunset over a flat sea, lit from beneath, with a single palm crown entering at the right edge.
A wide format, nine tenths sky. The cloud mass fills the left two thirds and climbs to the top edge; the light breaks beneath and to the right of it, where the palm stands.
Plum, mauve and dove through the cloud body, with cadmium yellow and amber along its lit underside. Ultramarine and cerulean break through at the upper right.
Flat opaque planes stacked rather than modelled, their edges left showing, with the lit passages cut in afterwards as separate strokes of unmixed yellow.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque, with a wide unpainted margin on all four sides.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in orange over the dark sea, letters widely spaced.
