A sunset over a flat horizon with a single palm in silhouette at the right, the sky banded horizontally from blue through to gold.
The land is compressed into the bottom eighth and the sky takes everything. The palm stands at the right edge and is the only form crossing the horizon; the bands of cloud run level the full width.
Ultramarine and violet at the top, through magenta and vermilion, to cadmium orange and lemon at the horizon. The land and the palm are a flat blue-black.
Short horizontal strokes of unmixed colour laid tight against each other, so the gradation happens between touches rather than within them. Nothing is blended anywhere.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque, with wide unpainted margins on all four sides.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in ochre over the dark land, letters widely spaced.
