Flirting
Mersh is in the pet aisle buying cat food in bulk when a woman beside him starts a conversation about her own overstocked pantry and offers to spare a few cans. He takes the offer at face value, says she can come by, and three hours later is still at his desk working out who she was.
Seven panels. The store is drawn as a deep perspective box, then the strip tightens to two people at shelf height, then cuts to a hand-lettered THREE HOURS LATER and a close-up of Mersh at a laptop with the word FLIRTING lettered beside his head.
Cornflower and periwinkle through the shop against mint green and pale pink in the woman's clothes, with the final panel in warm violet and gold.
Ruled shelving and freehand figures, the washes kept flat and bright. The lettering in the last panel is drawn in outline and left unfilled so it reads as a thought rather than a sound.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
Signed rayrayisHAPPY in small script at the lower right.
