A couple at a white-tablecloth restaurant argue about equality over a lobster. She objects to his tone, says she is going to livestream this and then go home after she fills her to-go boxes; an older couple at the next table call it toxic and ask whether he is abusing her. The waiter stands over the pair of them and says nothing at all.
Four panels dominated by one very wide central scene, which is unusual for the run — the table is drawn in full with the waiter standing dead centre and the two diners pushed out to the edges. The couple at the next table occupy a narrow strip at the right, which is where the chorus goes.
Violet and dusty lilac through the room against the white of the cloth, with the lobster in cadmium red and the waiter in black and bone. The restraint is the point: it is the quietest sheet in the run.
Careful ruled perspective in the table and a much tighter ink line than the rest of the strip, with the washes laid thin and even. The lobster is the only passage painted wet.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
