Fashion, Seascapes, Surfing — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour studies on one sheet — a woman in a white shirt carrying a red board along a beach below a green hedge, and above it a second figure with a board on the rocks.
The two studies are ruled one above the other. The lower is the principal: the figure walks left to right across the middle, with the hedge as a flat green band behind her and open sand below.
A strong emerald hedge against sand in ochre and bone, with the board in a hot scarlet — the three colours set flat against one another with nothing between them.
The hedge is laid as one flooded pass and stamped into while damp; the figure is built in a few opaque touches with the shirt left as bare paper. The cast shadow is a single violet stroke.
Watercolour on paper, two studies on one sheet. A studio photograph of a sheet of studies rather than a single picture.
Between the studies, raypatrick, in pencil, letters widely spaced.
