Seascapes, Fashion, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A surfer riding across the face of a small wave in front of a headland, arms out and knees bent, with a second figure further back on the rock.
The headland fills the upper two thirds as one mass and the water runs across the lower third; the surfer stands almost exactly at the centre, the only upright in the picture. The wave's white water sweeps in from the right.
Olive, sage and dun through the cliff, against teal and jade in the water. The surfer carries yellow, orange and emerald — every warm note in the picture is on her.
The cliff is built from square loaded strokes laid in steps, each one left exactly as it landed. The white water is dragged with a drier brush so the colour beneath breaks through; the figure is four or five strokes and no more.
Oil on canvas board. Thick, with raised ridges in the surf and the weave reading through the cliff. The board's edges are unpainted canvas.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in ochre over the water, letters widely spaced.
