Portraits, Fashion — marker drawing by Ray Patrick

A head in three-quarter view, shaved close, looking down and out of the page, worked entirely in grey marker against a scrubbed red ground.
The head fills the sheet and is cropped at the shoulder. The red ground is scrubbed in as a rough oval behind it and stops short of the paper's edge, so the head sits on a torn field rather than in a space.
Three greys and a black over white paper for the head; the ground is a single hard scarlet. There is no other colour anywhere on the page.
The greys are laid in flat overlapping strokes that stay visible as strips, with the drawing cut over them in a fine black line. The red is dragged on dry so the paper breaks through it.
Marker and ink in a spiral-bound sketchbook.
No signature visible within the drawn area.
