Fashion — ink drawing by Ray Patrick

A sketchbook of pen figure drawings open on a table — a man's head at the left and five or six long-limbed figures striding across the page in heeled boots — with a blue vase of flowers and two pens beside it.
The figures run left to right across the spread at full height, overlapping, with heavy black cut in behind them so they read as pale shapes against a solid ground. The head at the left is the only still thing on the page.
Black ink on white paper, with the photograph's own warm red table and the cobalt vase around it. The drawing itself carries no colour at all.
Fast closed contour with the brush pen used to flood whole passages black — the hair, the boots, the ground between the figures — so the page is built on a hard positive and negative rather than on line alone.
Pen and ink in a spiral-bound sketchbook. Photographed on the table with the pens used on it.
No signature visible within the drawn area.
