Dropping the hammer

The same blow drawn twice on one sheet — above in rough pencil, below carried through to finished ink. A heavy figure roars and drives a fist straight out at the viewer, the hand drawn enormous and foreshortened, with speed lines bursting out behind it.
Two versions stacked, the pencil at the top left and the ink filling the lower two thirds. In both, the fist is a circle at the centre of a radiating burst, so the drawing is built on a target rather than on a figure.
Graphite and black ink on white. No colour.
The pencil stage is left loose and constructional with the circle still visible; the ink stage is finished with long ruled rays and the knuckles modelled in hatching. Showing both is the point of the sheet.
Pencil and ink on paper.
Signed with the artist's name at the lower centre of the inked drawing.
