Don't touch car
Mersh leaning out of a front window in a red shirt, roaring and pointing, while seven cats sit all over his Buick on the drive below — on the roof, the bonnet, the wing mirror, inside through the open window. A hand-lettered sign is planted in the grass beside the car reading DON'T TOUCH CAR.
A long diagonal from the window at the upper left down the length of the car to the sign at the lower right, so the shout and the sign are at opposite ends of the same line and the cats fill everything between them.
Cold periwinkle and violet through the car against the warm brick of the house and a band of acid green lawn. The red of his shirt and the pink of the sign are the two hot notes and they sit at either end of the diagonal.
Dense pen hatching for the house wall and the grass, with the car laid in as broad transparent washes left to streak. The cats are each drawn separately and tinted differently so the eye can count them.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
Signed rayrayisHAPPY at the right edge.
