Landscapes, Desert — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Nine small watercolour landscape studies ruled out across an open sketchbook page — mesas, a dirt road, red cliffs, green flats and a cloud study.
The studies are set in three loose columns across the spread, each its own ruled rectangle with bare paper between them. All nine are horizontal and all nine put the horizon at roughly the same height, so the page reads as one row of windows.
Turquoise and cerulean skies over ranges in violet and mauve, with the ground in sage, emerald and tan. One study at the right breaks into terracotta cliffs and is the warmest on the page.
Small and quick — each study is a few washes and a line of stamped dark touches, laid wet and left. None is worked for longer than it took to state the shape of the land.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, nine studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page of studies rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
