Landscapes, Desert, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Nine watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread, each ruled in heavy black — red mesas above a desert flat, a harbour at sunset with masts in silhouette, sea cliffs, a village lane, and smaller landscape boxes.
The boxes are separated by thick black borders painted in, which is unusual for these pages and makes the spread read as a comic grid rather than a sheet of studies. The harbour sunset and the mesa study are the two largest.
Crimson, oxblood and cadmium orange through the mesas; the harbour below is magenta, violet and gold with a near-black foreground. The right-hand cliff study is cooler — teal, ochre and sage.
Flooded and saturated throughout, far wetter than the neighbouring pages, with the masts and rigging drawn into the harbour study as fine dark lines once the wash had dried.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, nine studies on one spread with painted black borders. A studio photograph of a page with the paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
