Landscapes, Desert, Sunsets — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Three large oil panels leaning in a rack — a canyon wall burning red at sunset, blue mesas above a desert flat, and a green range with dead trees standing in it.
All three are extreme horizontals, roughly three to one, stacked one in front of another. The red canyon is nearest and fills the lower half of the frame; its rock runs on a diagonal from the upper left, the only picture of the three that is not built on a level.
The canyon panel is scarlet, crimson and magenta throughout with violet in the clefts — no cool colour anywhere in it. The two behind are the opposite: cobalt, turquoise and sage.
Broad loaded strokes that follow the fall of the rock, laid wet into wet so the reds and violets meet without a seam, with the brush direction legible across the whole surface.
Oil on canvas board, three panels. A studio photograph of a group of works rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
