Landscapes, Desert — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A studio wall of a dozen oil panels on open shelving — panoramic desert views, sea cliffs, two sunsets and a self-portrait in a dark frame.
The panels are ranked along four shelf rails and read left to right like a hang. Almost all are extreme horizontals with a level horizon; the portrait at the upper left is the only upright and the only face, which is what makes it the fixed point of the wall.
Cobalt, teal and violet dominate the landscapes, with ground in rust and sage. Two sunsets break into scarlet and cadmium orange, and the portrait is warmer still — ochre and sienna flesh against a dark ground.
Thick and square throughout, the paint standing off the surface and the brush direction legible in every panel. Seen together the wall shows one hand and one method across an entire body of work.
Oil on canvas board and framed canvas, a dozen or more works. A studio photograph of a working wall, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
