Desert, Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Three oil panels standing against a wall — an orange mesa reflected in still water, a cloud study over a green ridge, and palms against a blue sky.
The three overlap in depth, the mesa panel nearest and largest. In it the rock runs as a horizontal band across the middle and is doubled by its own reflection, so the picture is built on a mirror line.
The mesa panel is the loudest thing in the photograph — cadmium orange and vermilion against cobalt and jade, with no transition between them. The two behind are cooler, turquoise and sap green.
Thick and flat, each plane one loaded stroke of unmixed colour left where it landed. The reflection is dragged horizontally beneath the rock in broken pulls that let the colour under them show.
Oil on canvas board, three panels. A studio photograph of a group of works rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
