Landscapes, Desert — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Two small oil panels on a table — a desert flat of blue-green scrub below red cliffs, and a canyon rim under a great bank of cumulus.
The two lie at opposing angles. The first is all middle distance, a field of scrub with the cliff line high and no sky to speak of; the second inverts that and gives two thirds of the panel to cloud.
Teal, jade and emerald through the scrub against cliffs of terracotta and violet. The cloud panel is cooler — lavender, dove and bone over rock in ochre and plum.
Loaded and broken, each bush a separate dab with the board's weave showing through the thinner passages, and the cloud laid in flat square-ended strokes stacked rather than modelled.
Oil on canvas board, two panels. A studio photograph of a pair of works rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
