Landscapes, Desert — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A long panoramic oil of red buttes on a desert flat, standing on an easel beneath a sheet of three charcoal head studies.
The painting is an extreme horizontal, about three to one. The buttes stand in the right half and a single small outcrop answers them at the far left, with the whole middle of the picture given to empty ground and sky.
Cobalt and cerulean sky with cloud in bone and lavender, against buttes of oxblood and crimson. The flat below runs emerald and sage with violet shadow.
Thick and square, the rock laid in flat vertical slabs with no drawing beneath and the cloud built from separate loaded strokes with the sky showing between them.
Oil on canvas board. A studio photograph with a sheet of charcoal portrait studies above it, which are separate works.
No signature legible at this scale.
