Landscapes, Desert — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A rack of panoramic oil panels in the studio — a green flat with dead trees, a river at dusk with figures wading, and blue mesas above a desert plain.
Three large horizontals stand in the rack one behind another, with more panels and framed work behind them. Each is roughly three to one and sets a level horizon in the lower third, so the sky carries the picture.
Cobalt, turquoise and violet through the ranges, over flats in emerald and sage. The river panel is the quietest — pewter and bone, with the water reflecting the sky rather than carrying colour of its own.
Loaded and flat, with the distant ranges laid in single slabs of unmixed colour and the foreground scrub stroked in short upright flicks. Nothing is drawn beneath the paint.
Oil on canvas board, several panels. A studio photograph of a working rack, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
