Landscapes, Desert — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Six or seven oil panels of the desert and the coast propped against a wall and overlapping — mesas, a sunset with Joshua trees, blue cliffs and a wooded ridge.
The panels lean in two ranks and overlap, so several are seen only in part. Each is built on a level horizon with the sky taking roughly half, and the one sunset panel is the only picture in the group with a vertical in it.
Teal, jade and cobalt dominate, with the rock in umber and violet. The sunset panel breaks the run with a band of cadmium orange between a blue sky and a black foreground.
Loaded and square throughout, with no drawing anywhere beneath the paint. The board edges are painted white, which separates each panel from the one behind it.
Oil on canvas board, several panels. A studio photograph of a group of works rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
