Landscapes, Desert — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A panoramic oil of blue mesas above a flowering desert flat, lying on a table beneath a sheet of comic-book figure studies.
An extreme horizontal. The mesa wall runs level across the upper half and steps back in two registers; the flat below takes the lower half and is where all the incident is. Nothing rises above the rock line.
Ultramarine and periwinkle through the mesas with umber in the shadowed benches, over a flat of emerald, chartreuse and sage. Small flecks of coral and vermilion mark the flowers.
Thick and broken, the rock laid in horizontal slabs and the foreground stroked in short upright marks of several greens. The flower flecks are put in last with the tip of the brush.
Oil on canvas board. A studio photograph with a sheet of pen and marker figure studies above it, which are separate works.
No signature legible at this scale.
