Landscapes, Desert — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Two small oil panels of pale sandstone bluffs above flowering desert ground, lying on a table with two palette knives beside them.
The two sit at opposing angles. Both are built the same way: a bluff running across the upper half, a dark seam at its foot, and the lower third given to broken scrub and flower.
Bone, dove and rose in the lit rock against cobalt in the shadowed faces, over ground in sage, chartreuse and ochre with small flecks of vermilion and cadmium orange.
Knife-laid and square, the rock scraped on in flat slabs so the colour sits on the surface rather than in it, and the flower flecks stamped over the top at the end.
Oil on canvas board, two panels. A studio photograph of a pair of works with the knives used on them, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
