Landscapes, Desert — picture by Ray Patrick
A studio wall and rack of panoramic oil panels — a red butte on a green flat, a cumulus study over open range, a long view of scrub running to blue hills, and a cliff at dusk.
Two framed panels hang above and three long horizontals stand in the rack below. Every picture shares one armature: a level horizon in the lower third, a sky taking everything above it, and a single small vertical to set the scale.
Jade and turquoise skies over ranges in cobalt and violet, with the ground in emerald, sage and rust. One small sunset at the far left is the only warm picture in the photograph.
Thick and square throughout, the rock laid in flat slabs with a loaded brush and the scrub dabbed over a warm ground. The board edges are painted white, which separates the panels where they overlap.
Oil on canvas board and framed canvas, a dozen or more works. A studio photograph of a working wall and rack, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
