D Tractor, the device
The device from the cover of D Tractor: a tractor drawn in heavy brush ink with a large outlined letter D standing on its bonnet. It is the book's title as a picture — D, tractor — and the only thing on the sheet.
Three-quarter view from the front, the big rear wheel filling the right of the sheet and the small front wheels carrying the weight to the left. Nothing behind it: the white of the paper is the ground and the sky.
Black ink on white. No colour.
Brush ink. The tyres and the engine block are solid blacks laid in with a loaded brush, the bodywork is left as open outline, and the exhaust and the steering column are drawn with a dry edge.
Ink on paper.
Unsigned — drawn as a device for the cover.
