Subject

D Tractor page 5: at the R.B.F.W. (Rippaverse Fulfillment Warehouse), ERIC takes the news of an ambush with a fruity smoothie in his hand. A runner comes down the centre line of a wall of forklifts the length of a street — “Master! Detractors are ambushing the ice cream launch!” — and the answer is pull up, air out, move different and I'm fine with that. In a side office GARY asks whether the 3-D printed ingredients have arrived from Brazil.

Composition

Six panels. The establishing shot of the warehouse takes the top of the page, the long perspective of the forklift wall runs away into the middle of it, and Eric's hand comes out of the third panel toward the reader. The side office is a small quiet box at the foot.

Palette

Industrial greys and concrete blue through the building, against the yellow trim of the warehouse and the ochre of the floor. Eric is painted in blue and yellow and the turtles in two greens.

Handling

Watercolour over ink. The architecture is ruled and the perspective is taken seriously — the forklift wall is the deepest space in the book — while the figures stay loose and brushed.

Medium and support

Watercolour and ink on paper.
