D Tractor, page 4 — calling Ethan

D Tractor page 4: the pink Cadillac heads out of town and DICK calls ETHAN from the window in Vito's chest. Dick is at the wheel with his own small hands on it and VITO is beside him doing the worrying — Vito's lines come in square boxes and Dick's in ovals, all the way down the page, while they work out whether “pull up” meant ice cream or a fight. The phone reads CALLING ETHAN and the air round it is full of lettering: RING RING RING.
A row of narrow talking panels across the top and one wide panel beneath holding the whole car in profile, so the deliberation sits above the machine that will carry it out.
Hot pink and crimson through the car against a sand-coloured street and cold blue sky, with the lettering in orange and gold.
Watercolour over ink with the car given hard ruled edges and flat saturated colour while the background is washed loosely. The one shouted word is outlined and shadowed by hand.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
Signed with the artist's handle at the lower centre.
