D Tractor, page 18 — the Iron Heel

D Tractor page 18: JOSÉ is taken, and MANGE's IRON HEEL comes down on the zombie that did it. The bite is drawn whole — tendons, an eye off its stalk, blood across the lens — and then a white boot at speed across a field of orange speed-lines. Afterwards MANGE asks ANNA whether she wants to say a few words for José, and she says he always got her best side. Further off, MERSH sends a shoutout to his family.
A tall action panel at the left and a row of smaller talking panels along the bottom right, so the page drops from violence into standing around in the space of one row.
Orange and gold in the action against the cooler turquoise, lilac and sand of the aftermath, with the blood in crimson.
Watercolour over ink, the action panels painted in radiating streaks and the conversation panels flat and still. Two techniques on one page doing the work of a cut.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
