D Tractor, page 1 — the flavour board

D Tractor page 1: DICK and VITO at the Good Foot counter on a Friday, while GARY calls the ice cream M SHE U. The hand-lettered board runs the width of the shop — chocolate, world domination, moose nut, ooze blues blast, pineapple lava flow, kiddy clown cone — and the argument underneath it is about stale cones and mid vanilla. Dick rides in a window set into Vito's chest and holds his cone up to the glass.
Six panels, the menu board given a whole panel at the top left so it can be read, and the rest of the page devoted to faces at the counter. The board is the only still object.
Cream and ochre through the parlour against cold blue and violet in the clothing, with the flavour board on pale yellow.
Watercolour over ink with the board lettered in small neat capitals and everything else painted loosely. The gap between the careful menu and the sloppy argument is the joke.
