D Tractor, Mint Salad in pencil
The pencils for MINT SALAD in D Tractor: the star-spangled beanie, the flag bikini and the phone held up in both hands, drawn for the arrest at the end of the book. Nothing is inked yet and the construction lines are still running through the figure.
A close crop on the figure alone, head and shoulders turned a little away and the phone coming up into the bottom of the frame.
Graphite on white watercolour paper, the grain of the sheet doing most of the greys.
Soft pencil, worked in loops rather than contours — the face is found by drawing it four or five times and letting the right line win.
