Crowd scene in pencil

The pencil stage of a large crowd picture — forty or more heads packed up the sheet, with a hand cart drawn in perspective at the bottom and faces worked out one by one above it.
The crowd is built as a rising bank of heads that fills the page corner to corner, with the cart anchoring the foreground. The construction is still visible: boxes for the cart, ovals for the skulls.
Graphite on white. No colour.
Light exploratory pencil, nothing committed, with the faces drawn at full detail while the bodies remain as single lines. The underdrawing for a picture rather than a picture.
Pencil on paper.
No signature; the sheet is working artwork.
