Country road past a single autumn tree

A country road running across a flat valley, with poplars and a single orange autumn tree standing along it and pale hills behind.
Horizontal registers, with the road crossing as a lavender band in the lower third and the tree line above it. The orange tree stands at the right of centre and is the one thing that stops the eye.
Olive, sap green and sage through the trees against a pale blue-grey sky, with the hills in dusty lilac. The autumn tree is cadmium orange and vermilion and carries the picture alone.
Light, dry and quick — the trees are built from separate dabs with the paper showing between them, and the foreground is stippled in small marks of green and brown over a dry ground.
Watercolour on paper. Transparent throughout, very lightly loaded, with unpainted margins on all four sides.
Lower right, RAYRAYISHAPPY, in black over the foreground, letters touching.
