Coming up a little short

A cartoon drawn off the show. A politician with both hands raised explains himself, and is told frankly that nobody is going to believe him as a pilot and that his excuses are coming up a little short. The man delivering the verdict stands at the right in a waistcoat, unimpressed.
Two standing figures facing each other across the width with the balloon bridging the gap above them, and nothing drawn behind either. The raised hands at the centre are the only gesture on the sheet.
Black ink on white. No colour.
Crosshatching models both faces and the hair is laid in with long directional strokes, while the suits are left as open contour. One name in the balloon is drawn in heavy bold.
Ink on paper, drawn as a cartoon for the show.
Lettered ROTC TOONS at the lower centre with the artist's name and a date in MMDDYY beneath it.
Two cartoons from today.
