Cat week
A week in the car, a day to a panel. Mersh drives alone on Sunday and picks up one more cat every day after it, until by Saturday the vehicle itself has become a cat — a long bus of fur and faces with HOME lettered on the front and the whole pile of them riding in it.
Seven panels on a strict grid, six of them identical in framing so only the count changes, and the seventh breaking the grid entirely to run the bus across the full width. The gag is carried by repetition and then by the one panel that refuses to repeat.
Grey wash and black ink for the six days, with full colour arriving only in the last panel — green fields, a warm brown bus. Withholding the colour for six panels is what makes the ending land.
Monochrome ink and grey wash through the week, painted flat with no modelling; the final panel is worked in colour with wet-into-wet fur. One strip, two different techniques on purpose.
Watercolour, ink and grey wash on paper.
