A narrow upright page read in four horizontal bands — the chequered wrap, the open midriff, the striped bolster across the hips, and the legs. The figure is centred and the lavender wash is laid in loose petal shapes behind it.
Apricot and black in the chequer, hot magenta in the legs, cornflower and black in the base, against a ground of lavender and dove. Nothing is mixed and nothing is modulated.
Two methods in one page. The ground is washed in transparent watercolour and left to dry at its own edges; every garment is then drawn over it in marker, each square and stripe filled by dense parallel hatching rather than a flat fill.
