cat 17
A standing figure in a dark swimsuit seen from behind, hand on hip, against a balustrade with a park and sky beyond.
A very narrow upright format, the figure running almost its full height and cropped at the head and feet. The balustrade crosses behind at waist height and is the only horizontal.
Transparent washes — cerulean and dove in the sky, sepia and umber in the hair and suit, olive and sap green in the park. One stroke of vermilion marks a shoe.
The whites are reserved paper, not paint — the figure's back and legs are bare sheet, and the form is carried entirely by the washes placed around them. Nothing is lifted or corrected.
Watercolour on sketchbook paper. Transparent throughout; photographed as a page, with the binding visible at the top.
No signature visible within the painted area.
