Career fair
A queue of women in stage costume lined up at a trestle table under a CAREER FAIR banner, where Mersh and a second man sit taking applications. The line runs the width of the sheet and out through an exit door at the right.
A frieze: everybody in one rank along a shallow stage, Mersh and the table at the far left and the queue filling the rest. The exit sign at the right is the only depth cue and it closes the line off.
Hot orange and umber through the room against the cooler costumes, which carry the only saturated greens and pinks on the sheet.
Ink contour with flat washes, each costume given its own colour and no attempt at a unifying light. The figures are individually drawn rather than repeated, which is what makes the queue readable at this size.
Watercolour and ink on paper, worked as a wide panel.
No signature within the painted area.
