pencil drawing by Ray Patrick

Six graphite studies of a classical head on ruled sheets — three as busts on plinths across the top, three cropped close below — with a life drawing cut by the left edge.
The studies are ranked in two rows inside a ruled grid, each head turned a few degrees further than the last. The page is a rotation study: the same object walked round rather than six different drawings.
Graphite on white, kept light throughout. Shadow is indicated rather than built, and there is no black anywhere on the sheet.
Everything is drawn as a faceted solid — the skull a few large planes, the neck a cylinder, the plinth a box — with the construction lines ruled straight through the form and left showing.
Graphite on paper, six studies, dated in pencil. A studio photograph of a sheet of studies rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
