pencil drawing by Ray Patrick

Four graphite studies of a human skull on one sheet, each at a different angle, with the construction of a fifth left as bare line at the lower left.
The skulls are ranked across the sheet in two rows with their construction boxes ruled round each. The largest, lower centre, is the most finished; the sequence runs from pure line to full tone across the page.
Graphite on white, kept deliberately light — no true black anywhere, the darkest note reserved for the orbits and the nasal opening.
Built entirely from flat angular facets laid with the side of the lead, so the cranium reads as a faceted solid rather than a smooth dome. Nothing is blended and no edge is softened.
Graphite on paper, five studies, dated in pencil beside each. A studio photograph of a sheet of studies with the pencils and brushes used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
