Bucket
A cartoon drawn off the show. A cat in a military helmet and uniform sits at the left smoking, singing the opening line of a mournful song to itself; its nameplate identifies it. A stern head-and-shoulders portrait of a leader fills the right-hand half, also labelled. The lettering above explains that cats have been called up because all the men are dead and all the women are at a pool party.
The sheet is halved: cartoon cat on the left, straight caricature portrait on the right, each with a nameplate. Putting the two drawing styles side by side at the same size is the whole device.
Black ink on white. No colour.
The cat is drawn in loose open cartoon line and the portrait in tight crosshatched realism, so the two halves are executed in different hands on purpose. The song lyric runs down the left margin in a vertical column.
Ink on paper, drawn as a cartoon for the show.
Lettered ROTC TOONS at the lower centre with the artist's name and a date in MMDDYY at the right.
