Seascapes, Boats — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Two yachts under full sail on open water, one close with a figure in the cockpit, the other further off, with a low coastline behind.
The two boats are placed at opposite thirds and set at slightly different angles so they do not pair off. The horizon runs level across the upper third and the water fills everything below.
Cerulean and ultramarine through the water, laid in bands of slightly different value, under a pale blue sky. The sails are cream and bone; one stroke of cadmium orange marks the figure.
The sails are flat loaded strokes with a single darker one cut in for the shadowed side. The water is a weave of short horizontal marks that lengthen toward the foreground.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately loaded with the weave reading through the sky; the board's edges are unpainted canvas.
Lower centre, raypatrick, in red over the water, letters widely spaced.
